Let's see, let's see, let's see. Yesterday.
I got up around six thirty and got to the bus station a little before ten. We ended up being there until 10:40 because there was this whole mix up where the 10:15 bus we had tickets for left without us and it sucked a lot. We got on the 10:40 and actually got to the performance on time. There was also this really attractive thing next to me on the bus. He was very attractive.
I got to the performance and it was pretty great. I like it a lot, if not for the plot, for the music. I think Anthony's not quite cut out for that role and that kind of ruined his performance for me. Don't get me wrong, I had lots of fun watching him dance during the songs he wasn't in (actually, during the ones he was in, too) but that role just isn't for him. He's not good at being an asshole, especially when, like Deborah said, he looks like he's twelve.
Jenn Colella looked a little old for the part, but she had a nice voice. It was just the idea of a thirty-something year old who looked like a forty-something year old dressed in a belly shirt, short skirt and knee high boots. The other guy in the show, (there were four people in the cast, two guys, two girls) Greg Reuter, wasn't really in the show enough for me to judge. I like his voice a lot on the recordings, but it wasn't quite as good in person, I guess. If I remember correctly, he was definitely into the role, though.
The best performance was most likely Rachael Holmes, the girl who had just come from NYU's Tisch school, so she was a newbie to the stage (well, no... but you get my drift) but she was really excellent. She was into the role and though her voice did have a few points of not being so great, it was overall.
So I got to the lobby and I was sitting on the floor trying to find Deborah's number and I couldn't find it. I started getting up and Anthony came down the steps and I'm pretty sure he actually recognized me which would be completely crazy since last time I saw him was in September. So, I asked him about lunch after giving him this weird opinion on the show (I think I pointed to the door to the theatre and went, "Wow. Fantastic.") and then his friend came up and like, jumped on him and started touching his face. As amusing as someone doing that is, it was really awkward for me because then he started talking to his friends, and I was just kind of standing there. I didn't want to walk away and be rude, but at the same time, I didn't want to stand there and be rude. I chose the latter and afterward I just kind of tried to finish up what I was saying (something about sushi and emailing him) before going over to find my mother who was sitting on one of the many couches in the lobby.
I then called Sars-a-lars to tell her about the performance, and then got the brilliant idea of asking Anthony to talk to her since she was sick and he was next to me, but he politely told me he couldn't ("Would you mind?" "Actually... yeah, I would mind.") and called after me to feel better (which was obviously directed at Sars. omg parenthesis!) and I got outside and called Deb and stared the picture of Constantine on the wall for a little while.
Then Rachael Holmes walked by and I decided to just kind of awkwardly go, "You were really good!" She thanked me so I asked her what she had been in before and, like I said earlier, she was just out of college so it had been one of her first perfomances, I guess. We talked for a few minutes and she offered me her phone number. I ended up getting her email instead and she left. She was really nice and I liked her. I emailed her an hour or so ago, actually.
So, we walked a block or two before stopping at a big resturant thing and waiting for Deb. I'm really not hungry when I'm exciting, so I just got this really tasty juice (highlight of my day!) and my mom ate pizza and we all just kind of chilled (Deb, too, because she was there by then. also, seriously make me stop with the parenthesis). We went to Macy's and one of the New York gift shops or whatever they are to get Kalli things and so my mom could get an "I survived a New York cab" tee shirt. We walked Deb down to 50th, I believe, and then we parted.
My mom, after that, wanted to go to the chocolate stores (there was a Hershey's one and an M&M's one) and that was really kind of annoying because she stopped every few minutes to tell me how cute bags/shirt/etc were. I mean, okay, if we were in a kitten store, she could do that, but it was chocolate. So, we finally made our way to Chinatown and got on the bus. It was a three hour ride and we got back to Baltimore a little before eleven. I called Sars and we talked until about 12:30 and then we went to sleep.
I woke up today and, my god, everything hurts. My throat's been bothering me anyways but since I was carrying around all of my mom's stuff in my bag for her, my neck and shoulders hurt, too. Not to say it wasn't worth it. :)
That concludes the story of my New York adventure. |
